Electronic Mail — State of Iowa Attorney General (Department of Justice) — 16 JUN 2025

Iowa Attorney General’s Office:

The following link provides direct evidence that the Iowa Attorney General’s Office utilizes Microsoft 365 to store and preserve its information systems data, pursuant to Iowa Code § 22.1(3)(a):

I have obtained Iowa Open Records response data from other government bodies within the state—also utilizing Microsoft 365—which demonstrates that key term searches exceeding 300 terms can be completed for approximately $90. Additional records confirm that searches similar in scope to those submitted to the Iowa Attorney General’s Office have been fulfilled by other agencies for $60 or less.

Accordingly, I am requesting the following public records under Iowa Code Chapter 22:

  1. Microsoft 365 billing receipts for the Iowa Attorney General’s Office (ag.iowa.gov), including the total number of tax-funded licensed users.
  2. A public record identifying the official email address of Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird, as referenced in paragraphs 1 and 2 of Section 2 of my original request (linked below).

This is not a large request. Frankly, based on historical experience and public reporting, I have substantial reason to question the credibility and fee integrity of the Iowa Attorney General’s Office. I seek these billing records to ensure transparency and to verify that any future assessments for records retrieval are consistent and non-fraudulent when compared to similar requests processed by other state agencies.

Additionally, serious ethical concerns have been raised through public reporting. Attorney General Brenna Bird has publicly accompanied a former president—then facing multiple criminal indictments, including charges of falsifying business records to conceal payments to adult film actress Stormy Daniels—during his court appearances in New York. The same president has faced widespread criticism for inciting an insurrection, abusing military authority against American citizens, and later issuing pardons to individuals who attacked the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021.

Given these circumstances, it is not unreasonable to question whether the current administration of the Iowa Attorney General’s Office maintains public credibility or upholds the rule of law in accordance with the Iowa Rules of Professional Conduct and the foundational principles of American justice.

Sources:

Until the requested Microsoft 365 billing receipts and the public record containing Attorney General Brenna Bird’s email address are provided, I will pause further processing of paragraphs 3–7 of Section 2 from my initial open records request, submitted under Iowa Code § 22.4(2). I also respectfully request that all future correspondence from the Iowa Attorney General’s Office clearly identify the sender of the communication by name and title.

The Partnership That Defends the Body and the Spirit of This Republic

The honorable service of the men and women of the United States Armed Forces—whose sacrifices defend the body of this great republic—becomes devoid of meaning and purpose if civilian leadership fails to uphold the spirit of that republic through transparency, accountability, and action.

Respectfully,
